London Borough of Camden.
IE provided energy audits into schools and children’s centres to help to build the LA’s carbon reduction programme and plans over the comings years.
Introduction
London Borough of Camden required technical and independent expertise to provide a clear direction on their energy saving programme. IE were able to deliver this without a vested interest in suppliers or contractors.
IE had previously been involved with assessing RE:FIT schemes for a contractor in Camden and from this, Camden invited IE to become directly involved in the future energy savings projects. IE, having established a good relationship based on delivering sound technical energy saving advice, are now continuing to deliver this to their in house energy team.
What we did
IE worked to review three previous energy saving projects. IE went into these schools 12 months after completion and reviewed the success of the various measures introduced on a technical basis. We also interviewed site staff to gain their experience of the measures.
Using the valuable learning points from these reviews, a further 12 energy audits were conducted on schools and children’s centres where the next phase of the energy saving programme was due to be conducted. These audits provided a clear range of recommendations based on both the previous projects and through introducing new measures.
The energy surveys on these 12 schools not only recommend energy savings measures but also delivered direct savings through controls optimisation carried out at the same time as the audit.
The project completed with a strategy being developed to deliver energy savings over the rest of the large schools and children’s centre estate with an approach that resulted in a much faster and higher value for money approach then previously.
Having a long term relationship and understanding the local authorities estate has been able to deliver a pleasing energy saving outcome of a much more efficient programme where even the audits themselves save energy immediately.
